The lumaire are the fire-spinners of the burning ghats, performers first and fighters second. A lumaire fights with whatever is burning: a lit torch will do, but the real
art is to soak a staff or a jointed weapon in lamp oil, ignite it, and wield the blazing thing in whirling arcs. Anyone struck by a lumaire's fire may catch alight and
burn for several rounds, and a lumaire who fumbles the flame will catch fire themselves. Their spinning fire turns blows aside (weave), dazzles the eye, and, at the
last, goes up all at once in a corona. Everything the lumaire does runs through firetending; agility and perception serve them best.
The lumaire is still in playtesting: for now its skills only work inside the city of Ravenfall (including the Carnival), and the beach.
Only a light with a proper flame -- a torch, a lantern, a lamplighter's pole -- will serve as a weapon; a candle or a glowing gem will not. A lumaire's torch is always lit
while it is in their hand. Burning staves are swung with the staves skill and burning chains with jointed weapons, and a torch with firetending itself; the fire only
ever burns for a lumaire who has lit the weapon first.
The Lumaire career introduces several new gameplay elements and thus will be carefully rolled through playtesting until it can confidently be fully opened up. The first, short, phase will be admin-only playtesting (today, possibly into tomorrow), followed by player testing within the confines of the city, Carnival, and beach. Once bugs and balance issues have been worked out, it will be fully opened up without any additional guardrails. Given the scope of the career and game systems it touched, bugs or other unintended changes may pop up in other areas -- please report any findings as they reveal themselves.
Please be aware that any characters learning the career during the playtest phase should be viewed as transient playtest characters -- there could be significant changes to the career still to come, characters could become permanently broken, etc. In other words, only playtest with characters that are ok to delete.
All skills, abilities, and associated helpfiles are publicly visible now. I'll update this thread when players can start trying out the career.
